Our family is mourning the loss of Gary Richard Sieck, who was born on March 12, 1952, to Richard and Betty Sieck.

Gary attended Wheaton Central High School, where he met his future wife, Jan Crawford. They both went on to graduate from Illinois State University in 1974 and were married that same summer. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, friends, laughter, and love.

Gary loved all things sports. If he was not on the golf course, he was likely watching his beloved Cubs or cheering on one of his nine grandchildren at their games, events, and activities. He was a constant presence in their lives and took great pride in being there for the people he loved.

Gary will be remembered for his quick wit, sarcastic sense of humor, loyalty, and the way he made people laugh, even during difficult times. He was a natural leader and was always involved. He served as president of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon, was active on the planning committee for his high school reunions, and also served for a time as president of the alumni club.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jan, and his three children, Kyle (Rhiannon), Christi, and Kelly (John). He was a proud grandfather to Gracie, Addison, Tyler, Luca, Marley, William, Caden, Nico, and Mason. He was also very close with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom meant so much to him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Betty Sieck, and his brother, Tad Sieck.

Gary received a double lung transplant on March 27 and fought hard for 96 days in the ICU. Even during that journey, he continued to tell jokes, watch his Cubbies, and spend meaningful time with his family, who were by his side almost every day. His strength, humor, and love for his family never faded.

Plans will follow for a celebration of Gary’s life.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
